Originally from Dunfermline, Scotland, Colin’s involvement with music began at age 7 when he studied trumpet and piano.
After moving to London he worked with various London-based R&B/Funk, Jazz and Rock groups, gigging regularly at legendary clubs like the Marquee, Dingwalls and the Speakeasy.
He met and played with many talented musicians, including Jeff Beck and Alan Holdsworth and also eventually gained his first opportunities to work as a studio musician. Among his early sessions was a memorable studio date with Bette Davis, ex-wife of Miles Davis.
As well as recording and touring with pop and rock acts Colin also became a regular member of several groups lead by the innovative UK jazz saxophonist and composer Trevor Watts,
touring extensively throughout the world and making several recordings, including a studio album released on the ECM label and a live recording taken from a quintet performance at the Athens Concert Hall.
As an artist/composer Colin has been signed to Warner Bros, Arista/RCA and BMG.
As a studio musician Colin has worked with a variety of producers and artists, including: Mutt Lange, Quincy Jones Productions, Keith Diamond, Glen Ballard, Femi Jia, Brock Walsh, Stewart Levine, Phil Thornalley, Billy Ocean, Betty Davis,Stevie Wonder, Jennie Bellestar, Edwyn Collins, Ann Lewis, Kevin Rowland, Annabella Lwin, Des’ree, Ruby Turner, Helena Springs.
As a touring musician he has performed at venues and festivals around the world. Some of these include: the Glastonbury Festival; the London Jazz Festival; the Berlin Jazz Festival; The Beijing International Jazz Festival; JVC Jazz Festivals in France and USA; Du Maurier Jazz Festivals in Canada; Heineken Jazz Festivals in Australia and New Zealand.
As bassist and composer Colin is also currently leading his own group Intransit which he formed in 2012. Intransit’s debut cd entitled Barlovento was released in July 2014 .
Colin is a Markbass artist and endorses Markbass bass amplification and effects.
